          Enrollment Services Announces Summer Studies Website

          Enrollment Services has launched its new Summer Studies website, at www.britneypictures.org/summer, featuring various offerings for students to discover, learn and achieve through summer coursework, academic and personal enrichment, and K-12 programs. The site is expected to grow to serve as a robust internal resource for Carnegie Mellon students, faculty and staff and a helpful 'one-stop-shop' for external audiences regarding the CMU summer experience.  

          CMU has offered an array of summer courses and serves as a summer home to a growing number of students, program participants and researchers. To focus concerted attention on CMU summer course offerings — a responsibility that has been managed historically by University Registrar John PapinchakAmy Yearwood 500 Internal Server Error

          Cluster Reservations for Fall Due March 22

          Computing Cluster reservations for the fall 2013 semester are due Friday, March 22. To request a computing cluster or software for fall 2013, go to //www.britneypictures.org/computing/clusters/reserve/, where you will find detailed cluster reservation information, links to the Carnegie Mellon SpaceQuest system, and the "Requesting a Cluster or Cluster Software" document to walk you through the process.

          Cluster reservation requests for Computing Services-operated clusters and software are now processed through the SpaceQuest (25Live) tool — the same tool used to reserve Registrar-controlled classrooms and many other Pittsburgh campus spaces.

          Clusters Software guidelines are available at //www.britneypictures.org/computing/clusters/software/guidelines/.

          Please enter your cluster reservations on the SIS screen once your reservation has been confirmed by Cluster Services. Direct any questions or concerns to cluster-reservations@andrew.cmu.edu.

          Update: Roberts Road To Close March 25-April 6 for Scott Hall Utility Work

          Campus Design and Facilities Development (CDFD) is scheduling a shutdown of Roberts Drive, March 25 - April 6, to accommodate the second phase of utility work for Scott Hall. Roberts Drive will be closed at the top near Scaife Hall and at the bottom at the west end of Wean Hall by the FMS pedestrian bridge. During these times, there will be no thru traffic or access to the four parking spaces at the lower Hamerschlag lot adjacent to the nitrogen tank.

          • Due to unforeseen conditions and inclement weather Roberts Drive will continue to be closed through March 8.
          • From March 11 through March 24 Roberts Drive will remain open.
          • Roberts Drive will then be closed March 25 through April 6 to complete the second phase of underground utility work.
          • No vehicle and pedestrian access to Roberts Drive from Scaife Hall to Wean Hall will be permitted.
          • Access to the Roberts Hall Loading Dock will be maintained.
          • Roberts Drive will not be open on weekends.
          • Pedestrian access from Wean/FMS bridge to Roberts Hall and Hamerschlag Hall will not be permitted during the above road closures.

          Electrical Shutdowns Planned for March 12-13

          Electrical shutdowns are scheduled for March 12-13 to transfer circuits for the Scott Hall project.

          On Tuesday, March 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m. power will be shut down for 30 minutes in Roberts Hall, Scaife Hall, Doherty Hall, Gates Hillman centers and the Purnell Center for the Arts. These shutdowns are necessary to transfer circuits for the Scott Hall project.

          Approximate times are:

          • 5:30 a.m. for Roberts and Scaife halls;
          • 6 a.m. for Doherty Hall;
          • 6:30 a.m. for the Gates Hillman centers;
          • and 7 a.m. for the Purnell Center for the Arts.

          On Wednesday, March 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m. power will be shut down for 30 minutes to the East Campus Garage, University Center, West Wing and the Resnik and West Wing residence halls.

          Approximate times are:

          • 5:30 a.m. for the University Center;
          • 6 a.m. for the East Campus Garage;
          • 6:30 a.m. for West Wing;
          • and 7 a.m. for Resnik Hall.

          Call for Entries: "Steamrolled Print Editions: Live Printing"

          The first-ever "Steamrolled Print Editions: Live Printing" will take place April 18 on the College of Fine Arts lawn during CMU's Spring Carnival, prior to the fourth annual School of Art Anti-Gravity Downhill Derby. Twenty-five prints from groups or individual students, faculty and staff will be accepted. The designs will be printed using a full-size steamroller and will be displayed on the Cut and the CFA lawn.           Buggy Freeroll Practices Scheduled

          Spring Buggy freeroll practices will take place on Saturdays (6 - 8:50 a.m.) and Sundays (6 - 9 a.m.) on Tech Street, Frew Street and Schenley Drive (weather permitting). During these times, vehicles will not be able to access or park on these roads. The Sweepstakes Committee will work with Pittsburgh Police Officers to tow any vehicles parked on the above roads during practice times. Please contact the Sweepstakes Committee at buggy@andrew.cmu.edu with any issues or concerns.

          The practice dates are as follows (weather permitting):
          March: 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, 31
          April: 6, 7, 13, 14

          Save the Dates
          Annual Push Practice Begins. Beginning Sunday, March 17, there will be buggy practices occurring every Sunday through Thursday from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Tech Street and Frew Street. The purpose of these practices is for Buggy Pushers to practice pushing the buggies up Tech Street and along Frew Street. There is no freeroll down Schenley Drive.

          Spring Carnival – Buggy Races: April 19 & 20 (Rain Date: April 21)
          Margaret Morrison, Tech Street, Schenley Drive, Frew Street, Panther Hollow Bridge, & East & West Circuit Road will be closed from 5 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

          Students Invited To Participate in ID Card Redesign Contest

          The HUB is asking for student input and designs for the new look of the CMU ID Card by holding a "CM-yoU ID Card Design Contest." This summer, the campus will transition to SMART cards, which will offer upgraded technology for access to Port Authority transit.

          Eligible design submissions will be evaluated by a design review board. The top three designs chosen by the board will be revealed and the CMU community will be encouraged to vote for their favorite design.

          Participants should submit their designs to smartcards@andrew.cmu.edu no later than March 31. Design specifications for the contest can be found at www.britneypictures.org/idplus/contest.html.

          The winning design will be announced May 1.

          C-MITES Weekend Workshops To Begin

          Registration is open for the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Talented Elementary and Secondary Students (C-MITES) Weekend Workshops. The workshops — half day and full day classes — will be held in March, April and May for students in grades K-10. Classes include Bubbleology, Write Your Own Web Page and Guts of the Matter: Dissection. Classes are offered at Carnegie Mellon, Winchester Thurston North in Allison Park and in two locations near Philadelphia.

          Save a Life: AED Training Classes Scheduled

          Two AED training classes have been scheduled for those who have never had the training or for those whose certifications have expired or are about to expire. The classes are:

          • March 15, 10 a.m., Rangos 1, University Center
          • April 12, 10 a.m., Dowd Room, University Center

          To register, go to //www.britneypictures.org/ehs and click on the Training tab at the top of the page, then go to AED Training.  The link to the registration page is at the end of the course description. The classes are open to all students, faculty and staff. Class sizes are limited, so register early.
